About Me

I am a graduate with degrees in Mathematics and Systems Engineering and Management. My passion and interest for applied mathematics, machine learning and business development has led me to be a successful scientist and engineer operating in the power sector.

As a professional, I’ve worked in the energy industry for over four years. A list of my publications and technical skillset and interests can be found in the tab below. My research is focused on the implementation and development of wireless sensor systems and the analysis of real-time data.

In my personal life, I pursue my interests in mathematics, programming and music production. We’ve all heard that teaching is the best way to learn. With that in mind, I’ve started a blog series on topics I’m interested in. I also post original music and instructional videos about music production.

Electrical Power Research Institute – Engineer/Scientist II | 2016 – Present

Developed a framework for visualizing data from a suite of wireless sensors installed across the country
Developed models to predict flashover of insulators based on parameters measured by EPRI sensors
Authored several technology innovation grant proposals
Currently managing the budgets of two grant funded research programs and eleven supplemental research initiatives with a total budget of $1.2M
Managing an interdisciplinary team to develop crosscutting sensor systems

Electrical Power Research Institute – Engineer/Scientist I | 2014 – 2016

Contributing developer of EPRI’s ‘Circuit Breaker Maintenance and Replacement Ranking Tool’
Applied a combination of economic and probabilistic models to prioritize replacement and maintenance strategies for fleets of high voltage circuit breakers
Performed lab testing to create a support vector machine model which classifies various types of conductor motion and developed an automated way to assess their fatigue and life expectancy
Applied conductor sensors to power lines and used real-time data to perform dynamic line ratings

UNC Charlotte – Undergraduate Research Scholar (Computational Biology Lab) – 2012

I worked full time for an eight week paid research program offered to STEM students interested in applied science.
My research focus was on the application of machine learning models to analyze gene expression data from microarrays taken from patients with varying stages of Alzheimer’s disease. The goal of my research was to identify gene expression patterns related to neurodegeneration.
Additionally, I worked with a professor to implement the models on a GPU cluster to reduce runtimes.

Performed literature reviews, routine data analysis from experimental tests and worked with subject matter experts to generate industry surveys.
